A generous donation of an electric hospital bed was donated to the Payne-Phalen LAH/BNP by Marti Cermak. The program loaned the bed to a senior, above,  served by the program.  The gift was made in memory of Marti's father, a life-long East Sider, who recently passed away.

Block Nurse Care

A poem by Mildred Ruby Jarnecke
who celebrated her 106th birthday October 20, 2006

 My name is Mildred. I at present am a little old lady six years plus 100 years of age.

And have recently learned some important news to add to my diary page.

Quite recently one day had a visit from our Block Nurse and also another Nurse,

Both had some very valuable news to relay to me, and I didn’t have to open my purse;

These special ladies visit the elderly in our neighborhood to lend their competent care

To those who are so fortunate to remain in their homes, their needs to share;

I, for one, surely appreciated this wonderful news, indeed

To offer their services to anyone in real need.

This program surely has to be a Gift from Heaven above, is my belief,

To be so gracious to try to relive many from hardships and grief;

It proves the good soul or souls who started all this

Had hearts of gold, to think of the aged, they should receive much bliss;

For they make sure our blood pressure is quite normal,

Plus their many other good services offered, informal.

I, for one, am most thankful to have met these good friends

Who so willingly offer these heartwarming aids to us, which we trust never ends.
